Tenerife is a true hiker’s paradise. The island’s magical natural spaces are the result of a volcanic masterpiece. The Teide Natural Park, being the most visited park in all of Europe, withholds the highest peak in Spain and is a Natural World Heritage Site. The panoramic views are almost unimaginable, and the surrounding fauna is found nowhere else in the world.
History
The towns and municipalities have stories that have an imprint on the rest of the world. San Cristóbal de la Laguna, for example, has maintained its 15th-century layout and inspired the American colonies with its wall-less surrounding. There are multiple different towns that are rich in histories such as La Orotava, Garachico, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Puerto de la Cruz with its historical garden.
Wildlife
The natural wildlife on Tenerife is surprisingly large in terms of the island’s size. With 400 species of fish, 56 species of birds, five different reptiles, two species of amphibians, 13 land mammals, thousands of invertebrates, sea turtles, whales, and dolphins. Make sure to bring your binoculars to catch a glimpse of the wild animals.
